Neurofeedback

"What can you accomplish with Neurofeedback?“

What Is Neurofeedback ?

Neurofeedback is a gradual learning process that takes advantage of the brain’s ability to self-regulate and seek balance. It allows the brain to enhance the performance of its functions and thus contributes to maintaining a healthy body. By exercising the brain, the patterns of operation are strengthened, making responses more balanced and therefore regularly more efficient. Studies show that this type of training increases brain plasticity, giving the individual better capacity to respond to both physical and emotional difficulties.

With Neurofeedback we target bioelectrical functioning of the brain, which is actually a more important issue than the “chemical imbalance” that is often talked about. We are concerned with the brain’s internal regulatory networks, and we train the brain’s functional disregulation.

HOW IS NEUROFEEDBACK DONE?

The training consists in connecting sensors or “electrodes” to specific sites on the surface of the head. This procedure is painless and non-invasive. The sensors allow the waves to be read, recognized and displayed on a computer screen.

The computer analyzes your brain waves and the specific information extracted from this process is what we know as feedback, which is shown by changes in the image or sound on the movie or video game used for training.

WHAT CAN NEUROFEEDBACK HELP?

Neurofeedback is basically self-regulation of the brain that is necessary for optimal brain functioning. It improves the function of the central nervous system and thereby improves mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.

DOES NEUROFEEDBACK CURE SYMPTOMS OR CONDITIONS?

In the case of organic brain disorders, it is a matter of getting the brain to function better than curing the condition. When it comes to problems of disregulation, we would say that there is not a disease to be cured, and self-regulation may very well be a complete remedy.

WHO CAN ACHIEVE RESULTS FROM NEUROFEEDBACK?

Individuals of any age can see results with Neurofeedback. It can help with a variety of problems such as bedwetting, nightmares, sleep disorders, attention deficit and other disruptive and disturbing behaviors. It is useful for treating anxiety and depression as well as drug and alcohol abuse. Neurofeedback also helps to relieve the symptoms of physical and emotional problems, such as migraines or PTSD. Peak Performers also use Neurofeedback training to enhance their abilities in sports, business, and the arts.

WHAT HAPPENS IF NEUROFEEDBACK CLIENTS ARE TAKING MEDICATIONS?

With successful Neurofeedback training, medications targeting brain function may no longer be needed, or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over the role of regulating itself. It is recommended to maintain communication with your doctor during the training process of Neurofeedback, so that he or she may progressively assess the need to maintain or reduce prescription medications.
